Seminar "Ethnic profiling - Recognising the problem and developing solutions"

Organised by the Open Society Justice Initiative, this seminar will explore the meaning of ethnic profiling and the challenges and benefits of documenting and addressing the problem.

Who 

• Rachel Neild, Senior Advisor, will share the findings of the Open Society Justice Initiative research documenting ethnic profiling in policing and counter-terrorism across Europe.

• Nick Glynn, Chief Inspector, Leicestershire Constabulary, will talk about the challenges of addressing ethnic profiling in the UK.

• José Francisco Cano de la Vega, Chief, Municipal Police of Fuenlabrada, will share his experiences of the Strategies for Effective Police Stop and Search “STEPSS” Project, a pilot project that achieved dramatic results – both reducing ethnic profiling and increasing the effectiveness of the police in detecting crime or other infractions through ID checks.

• Interventions from Belgium community groups, academics and police officers will reflect on how ethnic profiling manifests in Belgium and initiatives to address it.
